For reasons not worthy of mention (really!), the army uniform was recovered from that old, steely stash of manhood-ness.
I visited an old barracks (not my camp, though I spent a week there before), smelled that familiar armour metal smell and spent a quarter of a day with a number of new boys, for a start.
I was and still am pretty surprised. That, surprisingly, it turned out to be easy. A bunch of smelly boys getting together, joking/poking around. You know, that kind of stuff.
It was easy.
I have the habit of cutting my adolescence up into different parts. While other parts are bursting with rainbows and pretty flowers, this is a part which few people shared, which I dreaded and which my nubile mind, unknowingly, always fought against.

Some Things Wild
Recently, I cannot stop listening to these:

1. The Virgin Suicides OST (2000), Air
2. Med sud I eyrum vid spilum endalaust (2008), Sigur Ros
3. Where the Wild Things Are OST (2009), Karen O and The Kids
Loaned The Virgin Suicides OST from my editor. Don't know if it still can be found in CD shops?
And nope, I haven't seen WTWTA yet and really, I really can't wait (caught the cringe-inducing New Moon though). Please, please open in Singapore soon. As I wait impatiently, once in a while, I go to here and look at other wild and pretty things.

Turning 24
I turned 24 two weeks ago. Long time friends would know that I don't celebrate birthdays the extravagant way (that explains the lackof happy birthday photos, oops). I met two of my best friends for dinner and hung around town and caught a blockbuster movie and then went home. Simple and sweet.
My friends don't sing any birthday songs for me, because I'd feel awkward and don't know what to do during that few minutes of awkwardness (Do I clap along? Do I smile proudly?). Also, I don't think I've accomplished so much that it calls for a celebration.
This past year: I landed in my dream job and started work right after army. I visited HMV and Kinokuniya more regularly; I bought more CDs and half-read far too many books and magazines; My interest in fashion grew. I switched to a new brand of perfume because I thought I should smell more mature with age, but only to realise I like my old one better still. I started playing with cameras more. I visited Kaohsiung and Taipei and Bangkok, but not Tokyo or Oslo or Paris.
p.s. I received a wooden clock, an iPod Classic (160GB!!!) and a Golden Half as presents. Thank you guys!

I've been following this blog for a while now. Got to know about Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson's collaboration and Wes Anderson, to name a few, from here. Aron also likes Nobody Knows and is nice enough to reply my random comment in one of his blogposts. :)
And now! It's my turn to tag, and I tag Wallflower and val and jo. Umm, how many people can I tag, by the way?
p.s. Finally I put my mini rainbow flag to use. *waves frantically*

A Conversation: 1
P says:
did u watch 500 days of summer?
L says:
yeah
love it?
P says:
loved it.
love it?
L says:
yeah are you tom or summer?
P says:
i was told i'm a summer, sadly.
are u a summer or a tom?
L says:
i figured since you said i'm emo... i'm a tom?
P says:
but u look quite a summer.
P says:
anw, summer is actually really emo.
L says:
why??
P says:
u dont think?
she only de-emofied herself towards the end when she's married.
L says:
i need to go and watch again
P says:
definitely worth the watch.
L says:
i didnt think of it that way
P says:
u didnt think that it was worth the watch?
L says:
as in i didn't think from summer's point of view
now then i realised she de-emofied herself
P says:
yea she sure did.
L says:
you think she liked tom?
P says:
imagine, before she got married, she never had a reason to trust or to find heartfelt joy before.
she sure did, but he probably didn't give her the closure she needed.
but they were indeed vry happy together though,
L says:
thats the saddest thing
P says:
some parts of the movie i actually held it against tom for making everything about himself. u know?
L says:
wow
P says:
yes its sad, but if they ended up togetehr, then the beauty of the movie is goneeeee.
L says:
this is the first time i heard it from summer's pov
everyone around me sympathises with tom.
P says:
i do too, but if they had gotten married then we would have to sympathise with him forever cos he was always in awe with summer, but he never trully understood before. would u wanna be with someone whom u will never ever understand forever?
L says:
wow
i wouldn't
that's the beauty of it all, like you said
******
I didn't like the ending of the movie. Tom shouldn't have met Autumn and found love in her. I remember proclaiming it loudly to friends after the movie.
I didn't realise I was actually implying: It shouldn't be so easy!
And then a few days passed. And I realised I couldn't remember the movie as one whole, only in bits and pieces. It was shot that way- the scenes ran in circles and more circles. As we watched the film playing, we followed Tom's lead and ran in circles too.
Just like how the snapshots of our memories work.
My heart ached silently.
I'm a Tom, by the way. You?

A Travelogue and Somemore
Came across this video a few days ago from here.
The images are that of Taipei City; The voiceovers are interview excerpts of various Taiwanese's impression of Singapore City.
It reminded me of this:
For those who don't understand Cantonese or Mandarin, this song talks about a young couple discussing ways of dying together. 《北歐是我們的死亡終站》can be loosely translated into "Scandinavian Lands are our Final Destination".
I like travelling on buses. And peering out of bus windows.
